PRESENT & FUTURE 2008:

An exciting new year of WCTU Activities
for 2008

The Woman's Christian Temperance Union believes that young people should be aware of the problems involved in the use of alcoholic beverages, tobacco and illegal drugs. To encourage and promote research into the effects of these substances as they relate to the health and happiness of the individual, the protection of the home, safety crime and violence, college students are invited to compete in the State and National Intercollegiate Oratorical Contests sponsored by the Woman's Christian Temperance Union.

SUMMER CAMP

Among the many activities of the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union is our annual summer camp for our youth.

For more than 50 years this camp experience of one week each year has brought together Loyal Temperance and Youth Temperance Council groups from various locations in the Southern California area.

With a volunteer staff consisting of a chaplain, dean of boys, dean of girls, nurse, dentist, our teachers, recreational leader, and a dedicated group of counselors, our camp has received worldwide recognition for its program  aimed ultimately at helping our children and youth to commit to a life of total abstinence.

Our camp this year will be August 17-22, 2008 at Camp Maranatha in Idyllwild, California.  Campership price will be $180.00.  Campers riding on the bus from the Los Angeles area, please add $25.00 to your campership price for bus transportation.  Please send now for your registration forms.

Members and friends if you  would like to give a donation to help a child go to camp, it will be greatly appreciated.  Please send all donations or checks to:

SAN DIEGO WCTU

We are doing the World Vision 30 Hour Famine on April 25-26 (the last weekend in February was too unrealistic for everything going on in my life).

Our community service will be gathering items for the Rescue Task Force which provides backpacks for our wounded service personnel who come back to San Diego for treatment. These are men and women who have been wounded and evacuated for treatment.

On April 19th, we will be working Walmart to collect items for backpacks. The teens are also involved in raising money for World Vision. I'll probably write an article and have pictures for these events.
